Program Overview
The U13 age group marks an important transition in Waterloo United’s player pathway as players move from the grassroots phase into youth competitive soccer.
At this stage, players are offered a place in one of two development environments based on their current stage of development:
- Ontario Player Development League (OPDL)
- District League
Each team has its own roster, Head Coach, and league schedule. Both programs follow the same player-centred philosophy, with a focus on long-term development and providing the appropriate level of challenge for each athlete.
Development and Pathway Flexibility
Whenever possible, players from both teams continue to train together to maintain a connected club environment and provide consistent development opportunities across the age group.
The pathway remains flexible throughout the season. District League players may be evaluated and called up to the OPDL team as they continue to develop.
The goal is to place each player in the environment that best supports their current development while keeping future opportunities open as they progress through the pathway.
OPDL and District League Programming
The primary difference between the two environments is that each league has different programming requirements.
These additional requirements make the OPDL program cost higher than the District League program.
