Waterloo United
Waterloo United Soccer Club is a community-based, not-for-profit soccer organization serving players, families, coaches and volunteers across Waterloo Region.
Founded in 1971 as the Waterloo Minor Soccer Club, the organization has grown into one of Southwestern Ontario’s most established soccer clubs. Today, Waterloo United provides inclusive recreational, developmental, competitive and high-performance opportunities designed to help players grow on and off the field.
For more than five decades, the Club has been shaped by the dedication of its players, parents, coaches, match officials, staff, volunteers, community partners and the City of Waterloo. Together, they have helped build a club rooted in connection, competition, inclusion and care.

Our Story
Waterloo United began in 1971 when a small group of volunteers came together to create soccer opportunities for local children.
Within its first decade, registration grew from fewer than 60 players to more than 1,000. As soccer continued to grow in Waterloo, the Club expanded its programs, facilities and pathways to serve players of different ages, abilities and ambitions.
By 1998, Waterloo soccer fields were hosting more participants than the city’s hockey rinks or baseball diamonds. The Club’s growth was supported by thousands of volunteers, municipal partners and local businesses that contributed time, facilities, uniforms, equipment and financial support.
The Club marked its 50th anniversary in 2021 and celebrated 55 years of black and yellow in 2026.
Soccer for Every Stage
Waterloo United provides opportunities for players beginning with their first experience in the game and continuing through youth, senior, post-secondary and high-performance environments.
Our Role in the Community
Waterloo United is more than a place to train and compete. The Club aims to be a community hub that strengthens connection, belonging and participation through soccer.
The Club works to reduce barriers to participation, expand financial assistance, build relationships with schools and community organizations, and create programming that reflects the diversity of Waterloo Region.
Waterloo United also relies on the contribution of volunteers. Throughout its history, volunteers have served as coaches, managers, convenors, match officials, committee members, fundraisers and community leaders. Their involvement remains essential to the Club’s success.
Strategic Vision 2026-2029
Waterloo United’s Strategic Vision provides a shared roadmap for the Club’s next chapter.
The plan was informed by surveys, interviews and discussions with players, families, coaches, staff and Board members. It also incorporated an organizational analysis completed by a team of Wilfrid Laurier University MBA students.
Club Governance
Waterloo United is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for the direction, policies and oversight of the Club.
The Board helps ensure that Waterloo United remains accountable to its members, operates responsibly and continues to provide high-quality soccer experiences. The Club encourages people with varied backgrounds, perspectives and professional experience to participate in its governance.
Waterloo United operates as a not-for-profit corporation. Its By-Laws outline the responsibilities of the Board, membership categories, member meetings, elections and the general conduct of the organization’s affairs.
The Club is affiliated with and subject to the applicable rules of FIFA, Canada Soccer, Ontario Soccer, regional soccer associations and the City of Waterloo.
