Waterloo United offers a complete competitive player pathway for players seeking a more challenging training and competition environment.

From the Skill Centre to District and IModel, OPDL and beyond, each stage is designed to support players in their development. Our programs align with Ontario Soccer’s Development Matrix and Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development framework.

The Waterloo United Player Pathway

We provide a connected pathway from foundational player development to high-performance youth and senior soccer. Our pathway is designed to place players in an appropriate training and competition environment for their stage of development. As players progress, the level of training, competition and commitment increases.

OPL

Senior pro-am competition for players pursuing a high-performance pathway beyond elite youth soccer.

OSL OWSL

U21 & Open Age
Provincial competitive soccer for U21 and open-age men and women, offering another senior playing pathway beyond youth soccer.

OPDL

U13-U17
A standards-based, high-performance youth program combining top-level competition with established performance development standards.

District & IModel

U13-U17
Competitive team environments with league play at the district and regional levels.

Skill Centre

U8-U12
Individual player development in an age-appropriate training and competition environment.

Grassroots

U4-U7
Recreational soccer.

Assessments, Trials and Team Selection

Entry into Waterloo United’s competitive programs may require an assessment, trial or expression of interest.

The process varies by program and age group. Players should review the relevant program page for current dates, eligibility requirements and registration instructions.

Registration for Skill Centre assessments and competitive trials is completed through PowerUp Sports. All players must register online before participating.

Fees and Financial Assistance

Program fees and team expenses vary by level, age group and season. Families should review the individual program page and team information carefully before registering or accepting a roster position.

Financial assistance may be available through community programs, including Jumpstart, KidSport and the City of Waterloo Fee Assistance Program. Waterloo United’s current financial-assistance resources are available through the club’s policy and assistance pages.
